Braderies: your know-it-all guide to this BIG sale event

Braderies: your know-it-all guide to this BIG sale event

The upcoming season of “braderies” is at our doorstep and most of Quebec designers are in full preparation! Indeed, the Grande Braderie de Mode Québécoise produced by Anne De Shalla is one of the preferred fashion events of fashionistas and bargain hunters.

Braderies: your know-it-all guide to this BIG sale event

The Grande Braderie de mode Québécoise is held twice a year, in 4 regions of Quebec. (We will use the word "braderie" in this post, which always refers to the Grande Braderie de Mode Québécoise.)

Even if many of you know what we are talking about, as we approach these events we always have people who ask us what it is ... The word "braderie" in the Petit Larousse is defined as a "out of the shop sales event by shop owners of a city ". Well, that's not quite right, but not quite false either!

First of all it is indeed a BIG sale event. Every designer or fashion company prepares a kiosk or pop-up store at the location chosen for the event (for example, Casino du Lac Leamy in Gatineau) to present and sell its collections at a reduced price. Note that the event is not strictly reserved for Quebec designers, but it is also open to Quebec companies. At Message Factory and  OÖM Ethikwear

we design and manufacture our clothes in Quebec, but it is not a requirement to design or manufacture locally to participate in the event.

According to the location, there are between 60 and 100 designers and fashion companies participating in each edition, which means that you can really find everything: women ready-to-wear, men’s clothing, children's fashion, coats, sportswear, accessories (hats, jewelry, etc.). Another interesting point is that you will be able to discover new emerging talents and enjoy extraordinary sales on major Canadian brands.

Let's go back to the promotions... The merchandise is normally reduced in the range of 50% to 80% on all collections. But, what exactly do we sell?  Message Factory and Oôm Ethikwear presents collections of past seasons, inventory surplus, samples, items that sometimes have slight defects, but also exclusive collections made from leftover fabrics. Yes! We make an effort each season to develop an exclusive collection specifically designed for the braderies, which allows us to offer something new to our most faithful customers.

These events are demanding for Quebec designers and their entire team. We work very hard during the Quebec Fashion Big Sale and even several months in advance. We participate, among other things, to facilitate access to our products and get known by our consumers. Braderies are a great way to meet people, to listen to them, to explain whom we are, to make people aware of the importance of buying local and eco-friendly.

The event allows us to tell them where they can get our products for the rest of the year and communicate the names of the retailers who sells Message Factory and OÖM Ethikwear in their region.

The idea behind this is not to compete with our own retailers, but to ensure that when people need to shop, they will know exactly where to go to find clothes designed and made in Quebec or Canada. So if you want to include environmentally friendly clothing in your wardrobe, find out more about the clothes you buy, support local buying and make great savings, take the time to go to one of the Braderies. To conclude we thought we would give you 3 tips on how to enjoy your experience:

1) To get the first choice and best deals, subscribe to our newsletter. We send invitations to VIP evenings to those that are part of our mailing list.  The access to these evenings is limited. You can also purchase tickets through the Braderie site and support the Equilibre foundation.

2) Wear a camisole and / or leggings to try on pieces faster. It will save you time; dressing rooms can be busy and limited according to the space of each designer booth.

3) We accept cash, debit and credit cards and taxes are included in the prices, but you must be validating with each designer. Some prefer cash.

4) Bring your old organic cotton Message Factory clothing to give them a second life and receive a gift certificate. For more information: https://www.messagefactory.ca/ca_en/upcycling/

5) Not available to visit one of the events? Check our sale section of our website where you will find similar deals to the braderies during the event dates.
